'Once Stepping Forward; To Step(s) Back' - Five of a Kind - Live in London

'This trio, formed during Laurie’s first year studying at the Royal Academy of Music, features London-based musicians Finn Genockey on drums and Zaki Osahn on bass. It is a vehicle for exploring material that pushes and attempts to break the limits of form, rhythm, and harmony, always seeking melodic and musical solutions. Inspired by the work of modern trios such as Enemy, the Micah Thomas Trio and pianists such as Yvonne Rodgers and Lex Korten, and a deep love for all that has been spoken in this emblematic instrumentation historically, the group strives for music that grows bidirectionally. However, most of all striving for music grounded in the present and an organic improvisational conversation. Laurie’s compositional approach draws on a deep love of contemporary classical and folk music, and attempts to write improvisational forms in which all of these sonic worlds can feel at home. '
